Royal Bavarian 5th Infantry

Unification War 1866

In 1864, when Prussia and Austria victoriously fought against Denmark and obtained the Duchy of Sleswig-Holstein, the inner German hegemony battle shook the seats of power in Vienna and Berlin. After open war was threatening the government of those duchies, they seperated: Sleswig came to the Kingdom of Prussia, Holstein to the Austrian sphere of influence.
